Temporary Security Systems

Many alarm and camera companies only offer 24- or 36-month contracts. While these contract structures can help keep costs down for established businesses buying mature technologies, they aren’t a fit for every use case. For buyers who need more flexibility, Settler can help provide short-term security solutions.

TEMPORARY SECURITY USE CASES

There are a variety of cases where security cameras and other systems may be helpful, but which don’t require 3 years of coverage.

Events can frequently benefit from camera coverage to improve situational awareness and manage post-incident liability and learning. Pop up stores can still protect staff and merchandise, but with the option to move or return equipment after the pop-up project is completed.

New businesses may benefit from more flexible contract terms for a variety of reasons. Starting a business always involves uncertainty. If the business closes, it will be unpleasant to be stuck paying for ongoing contracts. In more optimistic scenarios, successful businesses often quickly outgrow their original location. Being able to rapidly resize and redeploy security investment dollars allows small businesses to focus their money on growth.

For the growing camera analytics use cases, permanent installations are often a poor fit. Proof-of-concept studies or consulting projects are often tied to definite budgets and deliverables. Investing in permanent infrastructure that doesn’t match project timelines can be a tough sell. Being able to capture and analyze footage for these projects without long-term commitments can be valuable.

BENEFITS OF TEMPORARY SECURITY SYSTEMS

Faced with signing a 3-year contract or forgoing security and surveillance equipment, many event managers, project managers, and other buyers have decided to simply skip buying it. While this is often a valid option, there are reasons to keep even short-duration projects covered.

Perhaps most importantly, visible surveillance cameras contribute to deterrence and can measurably improve the safety of events, pop-ups, and starter offices. In the case an incident happens anyway, they still contribute to quick recognition, effective response, and post-incident recovery efforts.

Security systems also often provide direct financial benefits through lower insurance premiums, loss prevention, and legal liability reduction. Being able to align security budgets to operational budgets helps fully recognize these benefits without an offsetting loss from buying a longer-term contract than is needed.

Finally, temporary systems provide the highest level of flexibility. Being able to scale coverage and duration of a system allows buyers to deploy when and where coverage is needed without years of ongoing commitments.

HOW WE DO IT

Depending on your project’s needs, we can provide a wide array of hardware for short-term coverage. This includes trailers, camera masts (including with LTE and self-container power sources), video storage and analytics solutions, and integrations with command centers and monitoring stations.

Hardware can be provided on a sale or lease basis. Hardware sold outright often fits well to minimize ongoing cash flow requirements, to meet cap-ex budget models, or for clients who may wish to redeploy to another project in the future. Leasing options are the best for minimizing upfront investment or for op-ex budget models.

Services are also an important component of the broader system. Services can fulfill functions of permanent installations, but with greater flexibility. For example, AI video analytics paired with offsite video monitoring can perform intrusion detection, alarm verification, and alarm dispatch functions without the installation costs of a traditional wired alarm system.

Settler resells a variety of services which can be purchased both on-demand or through pooled subscriptions. In a pooled subscription, Settler signs a long-term contract with a service provider and then sells short-term seats for those services to end users.
